Sales Manager: Wholesale Building Supplies

Our Client is a Distributor of construction raw materials, hardware and supplies in the greater New York metropolitan area. The company has several convenient locations throughout the region and offers the best product lines, tools and supplies in its industry. The Position:
The Sales Manager will report to the company President and will manage, lead and support a team of 5 outside sales representatives in the enhancement of existing accounts and development of new opportunities. The position is directly responsible for driving strategic business growth and increasing market share within existing customers, and will build upon the company’s client relationships, prioritizing sales activities and targeting major accounts.
The position is responsible for all sales activities and will be out in front of all industry trends, regularly communicating with the President, General Manager and Head of Purchasing, to inform them of requirements for added products and customer support when sales forecasts warrant. He/she will manage, develop, implement and supervise all activities related to outside sales and provide the kind of leadership, guidance and selling skills required for the sales staff to achieve ever-increasing levels of market share and profitability.
The Sales Manager will:
• Focus on improving all aspects of the sales process and do whatever is required
to achieve ongoing sales growth
• Prepare and present to the President annual Sales Department budgets and
forecasts comprising of Sales, GM%, Expense, Staff and Compensation.
• Prepare all annual reviews for direct reports.
• Develop the company’s yearly sales business plan and ensure that goals and
objectives are achieved.
• Work closely with accounting to minimize risk with accounts and make sure all
A/R is collected.
• Maintain the integrity of the company’s sales margins while ensuring that every
department is working to the company’s standards.
• Vendor and New Product growth: Manage this development and growth through ongoing acquisition of new products and vendor relationships.
The position will monitor and resolve customer complaints and issues, keep an eye out for cost-saving opportunities and develop strategies to re-energize existing customers while introducing the companyʼs capabilities and products to a broader marketplace.
The Candidate:
The ideal candidate will be a successful, seasoned, high energy professional with a proven track record in account development, management and retention, and an equally strong record of success mentoring sales teams and helping them achieve sales growth. Direct Sales Management experience in the building materials field, or experience selling raw goods and/or construction supplies is preferred. The candidate must possess excellent computer skills and be proficient in all Microsoft Office products. Experience utilizing CRM and Business Intelligence software is a definite plus.
The candidate must have superior interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to work with senior management in all areas of corporate business (Purchasing, Accounting, Warehousing and Marketing) and a record of success improving sales and profitability. The candidate should be a natural leader and team player who is able to motivate and inspire the sales team to increase sales while providing superior customer service.
Education and Experience:
The preferred candidate will possess a Bachelor's Degree in Management, Engineering, or equivalent experience, and 5-8 years of sales management and customer support experience in a warehousing, distribution or value-added reselling environment. Candidates with appropriate life experience will be given serious consideration.
